My Sweet Nothing

Walking towards me

I peer up and smile

Corners of your mouth lift

slightly, barely,

No one else notices

But a flower of compassion

Blooms in me with an explosion

So forceful I feel sick

You noticed me

my imagination?

I understand your soul

Complicated and deep

Forbidden yet beautiful

I can give you everything you need

But we can never be

You will always leave me wondering

You will always be

My sweet nothing

And here we sit

Talking of her and him

Not willing to admit

Where we'd be if not for them

I love him more than the skies

But I lose sleep

Wondering what's in that universe

Behind your eyes

Sometimes feeling guilty

But mostly filled with curiosity

I understand your soul

Complicated and deep

Forbidden yet beautiful

I can give you everything you need

But we can never be

You will always leave me hoping

You will always be

My sweet nothing

Things are supposed to fade

Into time's endless masquerade

Or so they say

Yet in my thoughts you have stayed

I chase away the blue
