This Moment
Written January 13th, 2012
I’m taking this moment
A feather drifting on a breeze
I’m taking it, and I’ll keep it
Tuck it away somewhere secret
A hidden safe place
I’m memorizing these seconds
And stowing them away
So I have them just in case
I find myself lonely on a cold, rainy day
I’m tracing my fingers
Like a whisper across your skin
So I can learn the contours of you face
Noting where one feature ends
And another begins
I’m counting your freckles
Filling my hands with your silken hair
I take everything in
With a touch of my lips
To your soft, shy grin
Every small detail, touch, smell, and sight
I commit it all to memory
So when I fall asleep at night
My dreams of you will be so vivid
True as the stars, shining bright
When I hold your sweet face
Carefully in my warm palms
And look down into your lovely eyes
You watch me with irises of smooth cobalt gray
Sprinkled with shards of cloudless skies
They float above me as I dream
And overrun my memories
I love the way the light makes them gleam
How a single glance can make my heartbeat freeze
I’m taking this moment
A feather drifting on a breeze
I’m taking it, and I’ll keep it
Tuck it away somewhere secret
A hidden safe place
I’m memorizing these seconds
And stowing them away
So I have them just in case
I find myself lonely on a cold, rainy day
Maybe if I close my eyes
And recall this moment in my mind
I’ll feel you holding me
Safe and tight
And it will seem like you’re there
All through the night
