The Box (a poem)

The Box
Written January 2nd, 2013
In my house, there is a box.
The box is mine, and in it I hide
When the house gets too loud
Filled with shouts and tension
Gossip and anger
When it’s too much on the outside
I shut the door on my box
And fill it with tears.

But it’s just cardboard
Very flimsy, very thin
Through its paper walls
I can still hear the agitated din.
Turn up music
Stuff cotton in my ears
Even when it’s quiet
I can still feel the scars
From all the dysfunctional years.

A Shooting Star (a poem)

A Shooting Star
Written November 8th, 2011
You breathed life into my lungs
Took my hand and lifted me from the ashes
You dripped sweet poison into my veins
And burnt me down into nothing

You gave me everything I hoped for
I finally had something to believe in
Now you’re just a whisper on a passing wind
And I don’t know you anymore

You sparked fire in my soul
Saved me from a desolate past
You drowned me in freezing water
And demolished my future

Stained (a poem)

Stained
Written July 18th, 2011
A familiar pair of eyes
Stare out at me from the computer screen
An image from the life you’re living
This very moment, somewhere, without me

And there’s this sinking feeling
Way down deep in my innermost core
I can’t look away from your face
While I remember the loss of something that could have been more

I can’t help but wonder if you think of me
If you reminisce and miss what we had
On the cold and rainy days
The days I used to keep you warm

Winter Rant (thoughts, rant)

Winter Rant

I hate winter.
Winter forces you to be confined inside until that rare occasion occurs when you're feeling spirited enough to brave the cold, bundle up, and roll around in the snow for a few hours until you can't feel your toes.
For me, that rare occasion only occurs once or twice every winter.
Every other day besides those two, the awful cold foreces me to become the couch's prisoner and to nearly suffocate from the boredom of being trapped inside the house (a glorified box) for any long period of time.
