The Box (a poem)

The Box
Written January 2nd, 2013
In my house, there is a box.
The box is mine, and in it I hide
When the house gets too loud
Filled with shouts and tension
Gossip and anger
When it’s too much on the outside
I shut the door on my box
And fill it with tears.

But it’s just cardboard
Very flimsy, very thin
Through its paper walls
I can still hear the agitated din.
Turn up music
Stuff cotton in my ears
Even when it’s quiet
I can still feel the scars
From all the dysfunctional years.

When Tragedy Strikes (a poem)

When Tragedy Strikes
When tragedy strikes
There often is no warning
The soft sand on which you walk
Glittering with reflected sunlight
In a single step becomes sharp rocks
Beneath your soft and vulnerable feet

Put Me to Sleep (a poem)

Put Me to Sleep
Written March 20th, 2011

Put me to sleep
Let me fall down to the sheets
Face down in the pillow
Please don't wake me
Leave me here
In this blissful coma
I don't want to wake up

Hero (a poem)

Hero
written March 16th, 2011

I'm dangling from a ledge
Thirty stores high
Hanging on with one hand
People down below looking to the sky
I hear sirens in the distance
But they won't get here before I fall and land

Tears stream down my face
As my fingers slip
How did I get here
So close to tumbling into space?
No one can help me
Is there anybody out there?
I need a hero today

Just A Little Too Close (a poem, intended lyrics, dedication)

Just A Little Too Close
Oh sweet child
With you gentle smile
I know you mean well
But my heart is the land
Of another man

[refrain]
I saw a lost and lonely soul
That needed someone to know
I gave you my hand
And as I pulled you up
You slipped and managed to land
Just a little too close

The Soldier's Sleeping Beauty (a poem)

The Soldier's Sleeping Beauty
There was once a girl,
There was once a lad
She was his whole world
She loved him with everything she had

She counted every kiss
That he planted on her sweet lips
And when he was gone
Oh how she would miss
His careful touch
On her skin that she loved so much
The way he'd brush back her hair
And how into her eyes he'd stare

Saying farewell was the worst for him
When the bus came to take him away again
The flood of tears in her eyes
As he held her tight and whispered goodbye
He'd kiss her so deep
And cling to the memory as he lay up late in his bunk
Holding her picture as he quietly weeped

Crutch (a poem)

Crutch

You were falling
I loved you
So I let you use me
As your crutch

Your weight
Leaned down on me
Straining me, heavy
Cracking me, heavier

I gritted my teeth
And took it
Until I couldn't take it
Anymore

(Raise Your Voice) The Truth (a poem)

Added to 'Raise Your Voice' collection May 25th, 2011
The Truth
You
And your nasty words
That cut deep like a knife
Right into the life
Of someone beautiful
Who used to smile
Before they met you

They
Don’t know what to do
Just let you cut deeper
And deeper
Picking them apart
Revealing all of their insecurities
To the world
Leaving them weak and sore
Crying in the corner
Thinking they are unloved
Unwanted
Discarded

(Raise Your Voice) The Dark Secret He Keeps (a poem)

Added to 'Raise Your Voice' collection May 25th, 2011
The Dark Secret He Keeps
No one knows
That he cries softly in his room at night
Muffled in his pillow so his family won’t hear
So they won’t ask questions
They can’t find out
They can’t know

He doesn’t know
What to do himself
What to think
He tells himself it isn’t true
So much he almost believes it
He doesn’t want to know

The boys in class don’t know
How much their words hurt
They’re mean to him intentionally
But they don’t know just how deep
What they say really goes
I’d like to think they’d stop if they knew

These Are the Days (a poem)

These Are the Days

These are the days
When everything you eat falls to ash
At your lips
And even after you swallowed
The taste you wish would go away most
Remains
And your stomach is in pain
From digesting the delicacy
That was your favorite yesterday
Or any other normal day
But not today

*Reflections (a poem)

Reflections

I look in the mirror
I do not recognize the face I see
She looks the same as she always has
But her eyes- her eyes
Are haunted and hollow
From troubles to wise
For her age
