Rooms (a poem)

Rooms
Written February 22nd, 2012
Music drifts down the halls
Piano crescendos and saxophone solos
Electric guitar screams and soft flute dreams
All spinning down the corridors
Inviting passerby to dance

One can listen in the lounge
A bright cozy room with plush rugs
Vivid expressionist paintings line the walls
By the soft warm hearth she can socialize
Or dance to the tunes drifting in from the halls

Wolf Moon (a poem)

Wolf Moon
Written June 28th, 2011
Your children stay up late
Beneath the covers; wide-eyed they shiver and quake
Envisioning the stories told
Horrors about me; folklore of old
The full moon flies in the night sky
If they're just myths, why do you lock your door, why?
There's a drawer where you keep silver and holy water
Afraid I'll come snatch your son? Your daughter?

Big Brother (a poem)

Big Brother
Written March 23rd, 2011
I grew up an only child
Among adults, coinciding in their world
I followed their example
Reading and writing preferred over play
I liked to learn new vocabulary
Instead of playing with dolls all day

I often wished on lonely days
Hanging upside-down off the couch
To amuse myself
With only T.V. for company
That I had a brother.
Perhaps a little one would be nice
To look after like the adults looked after me
But a big one would also suffice
He would play with me and protect me
