Goodnight (a poem)

Goodnight

Written August 10th, 2011

I wish you didn’t have to go

But your eyes are heavy

And you’ve had a long day, I know

Goodnight to you, fallen angel

Know that as your eyes close

The sun sets on my world

And I will grow impatient for tomorrow to unfurl

There are stars in your eyes

And the smell of soft rain in your hair

When I look to the night sky

I see a reflection of your face so fair

There is a warm summer breeze in your kiss

And the promise of dawn in your touch

When I toss a penny you are my wish

There aren’t many things I cherish this much

Far away planets orbit in your mind

Your gravity pulled me from the start

The closer we get to impact, the more I find

How I love the mystic moonlight in your heart

When it gazes upon your face with a longing stare

You taught the summer breeze how to kiss

And soft dawn hues will never be as lovely as your touch

Pennies hope for a chance to grant your wish

There has never been anyone that was envied this much

The universe orbits around you

Your irresistible gravity pulling it all in

And as the moon turns it wishes it knew

How to glow as bright as your heart within

Resisting every impending yawn

Because the night reminds me so much of you
