A Shooting Star (a poem)

A Shooting Star
Written November 8th, 2011
You breathed life into my lungs
Took my hand and lifted me from the ashes
You dripped sweet poison into my veins
And burnt me down into nothing

You gave me everything I hoped for
I finally had something to believe in
Now you’re just a whisper on a passing wind
And I don’t know you anymore

You sparked fire in my soul
Saved me from a desolate past
You drowned me in freezing water
And demolished my future

You gave me everything I hoped for
I finally had something to believe in
Now you’re just a whisper on a passing wind
And I don’t see you anymore

You filled me with everything you could give
Touched a smile to my lips every morning
You took it all away and left me to starve
And filled my sleep with nightmares

You gave me everything I hoped for
I finally had something to believe in
Now you’re just a whisper on a passing wind
And I don’t hear from you anymore

I want to spill your blood
But I still dream of kissing you
I want to forget everything
But my skin still burns for your touch
I want to scream until you’re deaf
But I still love to hear you laugh
I want to throw you into the cold
But I still remember all the ways I kept you warm
I want to burn your ugly pictures
But I still think of your angel face
I want to hate you
But I still love you

You inspired me to greet the new day
Gave me wings to fly
You made me want to sleep forever
And now I’m a shooting star falling from the sky

But I’m burning up
And I’m about to hit ground
I’ve burnt up
And I’ve smashed down

Somewhere in the crash landing
You shattered, and the pieces,
They simmered and disintegrated
And I rise up, red hot
But still alive
I watch our love burn up
And as the smoke rises into the atmosphere
Something dies

You gave me everything I hoped for
I finally had something to believe in
Now you’re just a whisper on a passing wind
And I don’t love you anymore
