Missing You (a poem)

Missing You
Written June 5th, 2011
I press my face to the pillow
And with a soft weary sigh
Allow the blankets to embrace me
Slowly, I let the day go
To be absorbed by my loving mattress
Freed from limiting concentration
And the confines of stress
My mind wanders where it likes
Since I’m quite fond of you
It tends to meander your way

In the dark of night
My thoughts screaming into
Silence

I think of you,
And I long for you.

The pillows remind me
Of your soft breath on my cheek
The blankets hold whispers
Of your arms carefully encompassing me
The burning of skin and skin that I seek
I see you smile in the stars
Full of life and glow
I see your heart in the moon
Quiet and stunning, hinting of secrets
A mystery that intrigues me so

In the dark of the night
My thoughts screaming into
Silence

I think of you,
And I long for you.

Do you know how my heart begs
For a single deep kiss?
A burning moment of affection
Placed on my lips
My fingers are empty
Aching for a purpose
Perhaps soft hair to mingle in
Or a charming, weathered hand to hold
My hips are cold, a fruitless bowl
With no gentle palms
To fill these lonely valleys
With the sweet warmth of simmering coals

In the dark of the night
My thoughts screaming into
Silence

I think of you,
And I long for you.

Imagining you beside me
Is a delicious torture I can’t resist
I close my eyes and you’re here
Strong arms holding me safe
A low voice murmuring sweet things in my ear
Gentle heartfelt kisses on my neck
You’ll take away my every fear
And when the sunlight appears in the morning
I’ll wake with a smile on my face
Softly kiss you awake
And watch the eyes I love come open
In that moment, there is no time or place
I’d rather be
As you hold me close
I’ll fall a little more for you

In the dark of the night
My thoughts screaming into
Silence

I think of you,
And I long for you.

Yes, this is when I crave you
You’re so far away
And this is when I wish it wasn’t true.
