Elusive (a poem)

Elusive
Written March 21st, 2011
I see it there
Shimmering before me
An iridescent wisp in the air
I have to be quick to snatch it
Before it goes away
Scattered by a tiny breeze of distraction
It won't stay

For very long
If I don't concentrate
On this elusive rush of inspiration
Seize it and create
Sometimes it is a tiny floating tendril
It flickers and is gone in a heartbeat
Sometimes it fills the air, sparkling
Staying for the day; refusing defeat
I live for this evasive creature
Always alert for its presence
My senses trained and ready
To catch its glorious, untamed essence
I keep my notebook with me
Pen at the ready
To fill the pages with what I see
When inspiration comes to visit me
