Put Me to Sleep (a poem)

Put Me to Sleep
Written March 20th, 2011

Put me to sleep
Let me fall down to the sheets
Face down in the pillow
Please don't wake me
Leave me here
In this blissful coma
I don't want to wake up

Put me to sleep
Let me hibernate
For a week, a month
Maybe more
My body is tortured
My heart aches, my mind is sore
Leave me here
In this mindless abandon
I need to heal
I need to rejuvenate

Put me to sleep
This world is wearing me thin
Ragged to the bone
Leaving me in tatters
I need to rest
Before I lose faith in mankind
In love
I want life to go away
For a week, leave me alone
I'm so tired of people
Of being human
So let me sleep

Put me to sleep
Turn me loose
Into the world of dreams
Where everything is possible
Without consequence
Let me run free
Fill my body with new life
Before I return to this world
Full of hurt, lies, and deceit
I need to escape

Please, I just need to sleep
Put me to sleep
